SPORT, Recreation, Arts and Culture Minister Anselem Sanyatwe believes that discipline, teamwork and excellence are some of the benefits of sport.
He was speaking on the sidelines of the Tinmac Foundation Tournament Finals held on Saturday at St Margaret’s Primary School in Wedza.
Athletes across several sporting disciplines battled it out for the pole position.
Prizes worthy US$50 000 were awarded to athletes in the different games.
“The discipline, teamwork and pursuit of excellence demonstrated in this field are the cornerstones of building a prosperous and empowered society,” said Sanyatwe.
“This event stands as a vibrant, living embodiment of our collective spirit and forward-looking vision championed by our nation’s development agenda.
“I extend my profound applause to the Tinmac Foundation for your visionary initiative in conceiving and bringing this magnificent sports tournament to life.
“The momentum and legacy created here today provide a crucial springboard into the future, aligning perfectly with the ambitious goals of the forthcoming National Development Strategy 2.”
He added: “Let us shun child marriages, domestic violence and drug and substance abuse. Let your victories be earned through skill and sportsmanship, and let your conduct be a testament to your character.”
The event itself was celebrated not just as a competition but as a strategic national asset.
Wedza South Legislator Tino “Tinmac” Machakaire said: “We are tackling the serious challenge of drug and substance abuse in rural areas by launching awareness programmes, campaigns and sports initiatives.
“Our goal is to educate our people about the dangers of substance abuse and provide opportunities for our youth to engage in positive activities.
“My aim is to create opportunities for our talented young players to be identified and supported, while also fostering a sense of purpose and motivation among our communities.
“By supporting sports, we’re not only promoting healthy lifestyles but also contributing to the growth of our economy.”
Tinmac Foundation is now considering expanding the tournament to be nationwide.
