MINISTER of Sport, Recreation, Arts and Culture, Anselem Sanyatwe, yesterday paid a courtesy visit to two international golfers recovering in hospital following Sunday night’s fatal road accident involving five participants from the 2025 FBC Zimbabwe Open.
The tragic crash claimed the life of Zvishavane-based professional golfer Morton Kombai, while four others, including two foreign players, were seriously injured.
The accident involved Zimbabwean golfers Tonderai Masunga, Biggie Chibvuri, Malawian Victor Kachepatsonga, and Ghanaian Lucky Ayisa. Chibvuri, who was driving, and Masunga were discharged on Monday, but the two foreign golfers remain admitted at Kensington Medical Clinic in Harare.
Speaking after his hospital visit, Minister Sanyatwe assured that government remains committed to supporting the injured players.

“We are here at Kensington Medical Clinic where Lucky from Ghana and Victor from Malawi are admitted. They are recovering well and responding positively to treatment. I want to thank the doctor for the close attention being given,” said Sanyatwe.
“As government, we are deeply concerned, but rest assured we will continue to support them in every way we can.”
The Minister commended Zimbabwe’s golfing community for rallying behind the injured players in their time of need.
“I’m reliably informed that the entire golf community, including our partners, have been very supportive. That’s commendable.”

He also confirmed that both the Malawian and Ghanaian embassies had been informed of the incident, and communication had been established with the players’ families.
“I’m happy that their next of kin have been contacted, along with the respective embassies. We are working closely with them, and we’re hopeful the players will be discharged and return home soon.”
Minister Sanyatwe was accompanied by his deputy, Emily Jesaya, and Sports and Recreation Commission director-general Eltah Nengomasha.
