A 42-YEAR-OLD security guard lost valuables worth US$110 to seven armed robbers after they failed to access a business premise along Simon Mazorodze Road in Harare on Wednesday.
Elliot Mangwana, of Safe Guard Alarms, was tied with shoelaces and lost a satchel, and a torch, to the robbers.
His colleagues – Wilson Phiri, Rute Madzana and Darlington Majongomayi – were also tied up by the criminals.
Harare provincial police spokesperson, Inspector Luckmore Chakanza, confirmed the incident saying the matter has been referred to CID Homicide, for further investigations.
“Police are investigating an armed robbery case where seven armed robbers force-marched and tied four security guards at a shop along Simon Mazorodze Road,” said Insp Chakanza.
“Circumstances were that on the 1st of June 2022, at around 0130 hours, two complainants were on duty, and one of them was in the guardroom and another was in a company vehicle.
“One of them was approached by two unknown men who were armed with unknown pistols.
“They pointed at him and ordered him not to press panic buttons and they then force-marched him to a Mitsubishi Canter motor vehicle where another guard was.
“The two suspects then opened the passenger door and pointed (the pistol) at one guard on the forehead, ordering him to disembark from the vehicle.
“They told the two complainants to remove their shoe laces and they tied their hands.
“Five more robbers appeared and ordered the two guards to sit down.”
“One of the suspects was left guarding the two guards while six other accused persons proceeded to the shop.”
He added:
“As they tried to open the window, the alarm rang and alerted the Safeguard Security Reaction team.
“After a couple of minutes, the Safeguard Security Reaction team arrived at the scene.
“One of the complainants then escaped and alerted ZRP Mbare District Headquarters.
“Upon hearing a phone call, the suspects searched one of the complainants and stole a satchel and torch and fled.”
