A CHIKANGA vendor and a father of four was recently hauled before the courts for selling prescribed drugs without a licence at Sakubva Flea Market.

Tichafa Mbidzo (41) was convicted on his own plea of guilty by Mutare magistrate Mr Langton Mukwengi. He was ordered to pay a fine of $100 or serve 20 days behind bars.

Prosecuting, Mr Brian Goto said Mbidzo was arrested after being found selling Bio Claire lightening cream tubes, Miracle Seven-Spot remover and G and G Taint Uniforme, which are prescription drugs and he had no licence. The drugs were recovered.

In mitigation, Mbidzo told the magistrate that he was a family man who had been in the vending industry for more than five years.

“Your Worship, I work very hard to sustain my family. I was not aware that I was selling illegal drugs. I erred and I will not do it again,” pleaded Mbidzo.

Six months were suspended on condition that he did not commit a similar offence in the next five years.
