Mr Mwonzora said Sen Gombami’s body was supposed to be transported to Bulawayo from Harare yesterday and would tonight lie in state at the family home in Mpopoma.
“The body will be taken to Bulawayo and she will be buried on Thursday at Lady Stanley Cemetery at 11am,” he said.
Sen Gombami’s husband, Mr Fanuel Gombami said the results of the post-mortem indicated that she succumbed to bird flu.
“The cause of death according to the doctor was bird flu,” said Mr Gombami.
Meanwhile, the MDC led by Professor Welshman Ncube has sent a condolence message to the Gombami family.
The party’s provincial spokesperson for Bulawayo, Mr Edwin Ndlovu said they were saddened by the death of Sen Gombami.
“We are very much saddened by the sudden death of Sen Gombami who was sober minded and a down-to-earth politician,” said Mr Ndlovu.
He described Sen Gombami as a person who practised an open door policy on issues to do with the constitution-making process.
Mr Ndlovu said her death came at a critical stage of the constitution-making process and had left a void in the country.
“She was taken so soon and at a critical stage of drafting of the constitution. This is a loss not to her family or political party but all the people of Zimbabwe,” he said.
Sen Gombami died at a clinic in Gokwe after a short illness on Monday morning.
She complained of dizziness and collapsed when she and her husband went to visit a relative in Gokwe.
