ZIMBABWE Volleyball Association (ZVA) president Frederick Ndlovu says they have received confirmation on the clubs that will represent the country in the Region 5 Club Championships to be held in Mozambique from December 14 to 21.Ndlovu said there will be a total of 41 volleyball clubs competing in the event from all the 10 countries in the region and seven of the clubs will be from Zimbabwe.

“There will be 21 ladies and 20 men’s clubs that will compete in the Region 5 Club Championships and we will be sending seven teams from Zimbabwe to represent us,” said Ndlovu.

The men’s category will have Support Unit, Naba, Raiders and Stanbic Thunder while women will be represented by Zimbabwe Republic Police, University of Zimbabwe, Support Unit and Raiders.

Stanbic Thunder and University of Zimbabwe received automatic qualification after they clinched the ZVA national league title last year in the men and women’s categories respectively.

Ndlovu said the countries receive two automatic slots while up to five teams can be invited.

Zimbabwe has over the years seen clubs travelling around the region to participate in competitions but are yet to win the title.

“The clubs have not done well over the years and we keep on urging them to do their best in each competition,” said Ndlovu.
