At least seven people have been jailed in separate cases for various offences, including robberies, fraud, drug dealing and theft of copper cables.
They were slapped with jail terms ranging between six and 10 years.
In a statement, national police spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi said, “The Zimbabwe Republic Police releases the names of seven suspects who were arrested and convicted for various crimes of concern throughout the county for the week ending June 26, 2025.”
They are Milton Sebele (31), who was jailed eight years for a robbery he committed at a homestead at Village B4, Hope Fountain on January 13, 2025.
Sebele and his three accomplices, who are still at large, teamed up armed with machetes and forcibly gained entry into the complainant’s house.
They attacked him before stealing cash and cellphones.
Isaac Nherera (26) was arrested for a robbery he committed on March 22 this year in Beitbridge.
Nherera and his accomplice, who is still at large, hired a taxi posing as genuine travellers and along the way, they attacked the complainant and stole his car and valuables.
He will spend nine years in prison for the offence.
Comm Nyathi said another criminal, Ashton Benedict (26) was arrested for robbery he committed on March 19 this year at Zimre Village Flats in Beitbridge.
He attacked a complainant before stealing cash and a cellphone. Benedict was jailed for eight years.
Prince Mutero (43) was also jailed for nine years for a robbery he committed on May 28 this year in Amveni suburb in Kwekwe where he and his accomplices stole US$1 400 cash, which was in a parked car after attacking a complainant.
Peter Matengahama (46) was arrested for contravening the Electricity Act Chapter 13:19 after vandalising eight Zimbabwe Electricity Transmission and Distribution Company (ZETDC) transformers and stealing copper windings in Chipinge on different occasions between May and June 2022.
He was jailed 10 years.
Another criminal, Shingirai Cele (41), was arrested for fraud after misrepresenting to a complainant that she could supply basic commodities such as maize meal, sugar, sugar beans and sanitary pads.
The complainant paid US$67 300 for the order, but no delivery was made. Cele has been jailed for six years.
Meanwhile, Obvious Ngwenya (50), who was arrested for unlawful possession of mbanje on May 20, 2025 in Gwanda was jailed for 10 years.
“The Zimbabwe Republic Police will continue to engage the judiciary to impose deterrent sentences on offenders,” Comm Nyathi said.
