Sex worker jailed for assaulting cop

Andile Ncube (19) pleaded not guilty to two counts of assault and malicious damage to Government property.
Magistrate Mr Lazarus Murendo however, convicted her at the close of the State case.

Ncube was sentenced to one year in jail for the assault charge. Another six months were added to the sentence for damaging Government property.
Mr Murendo however, suspended six months of the sentence for five years on condition that she does not commit a similar offence.

Prosecutor Ms Patience Chimusaru told the court that in the early hours of November 18 last year, Ncube who was in the company of a friend Rumbidzai Malimo were approached by police officers in the Avenues.
Sergeant Zvimba, Constable Masaira and Constable Mutengerere, based at Fife Avenue Base, were doing their normal duties when they came across the pair.

The two were arrested for loitering for the purpose of prostitution.
Ncube became violent when she was being handcuffed and slapped Sergeant Zvimba.
The police officers however managed to handcuff Ncube and took her to Fife Avenue police station.
Ncube however, hit and broke the charge office counter with her handcuffed hands.
