“The primary elections have come and gone and they are a process of strengthening the intra-party democracy,” said Cde Shamu.
“Losing a primary election does not mean an end to someone’s political life and we would like to appeal to those who did not win to support those who won.” Primary elections, he said, were not there to create disunity and hatred but galvanise the party.
Politburo member Dr Ignatius Chombo, who also successfully filed his papers, said there was no time to rest as the real battle has just began.
“The voting went on well and to those who won, the work starts right now to ensure that the party wins against the MDCs. Let’s now go back to the people and work so that our party wins the elections resoundingly,” he said. He said there was no room for a losing party cadre to want to stand as an independent candidate if they have Zanu-PF at heart.
