The eagerly anticipated Sheasham Beach Soccer Pitches are on the verge of opening, marking a significant milestone for sports development in the Midlands province.
With construction nearing completion, the state-of-the-art facility promises to become a hub for beach soccer enthusiasts and a catalyst for grassroots football in the region.
Located in the heart of Gweru, the project has been a labor of love for Sheasham, a local property development company renowned for its commitment to community-driven initiatives. The pitches, designed to meet international standards, are expected to host local tournaments, training camps, and potentially even national competitions, putting Gweru on the map as a destination for beach soccer.
Beach soccer, a fast-paced and thrilling variant of the traditional game, has been gaining traction across Africa, and the Sheasham facility is poised to capitalise on this growing interest. The sandy pitches, surrounded by spectator stands and modern amenities, are designed to provide an immersive experience for players and fans alike.
Local football authorities have welcomed the development, highlighting its potential to nurture young talent and provide a platform for players to showcase their skills.
“This is a game-changer for beach soccer in Gweru and Zimbabwe as a whole,” said Beach Soccer Zimbabwe vice president for events and commercialisation, Taurai Janhi.
“Not only will it promote beach soccer, but it will also create opportunities for players to develop their technical abilities in a unique environment.”
The project has also been praised for its potential economic impact. With the ability to attract teams and spectators from across the country, the facility is expected to boost tourism and create jobs for locals. Vendors, hospitality businesses, and transport operators are already gearing up to capitalise on the influx of visitors.
As the final touches are applied to the pitches, excitement is building among the community. Local schools and football clubs have expressed keen interest in utilising the facility, while plans are underway to host an inaugural tournament to mark its official opening.
For Sheasham, the project is more than just a sports facility—it’s a testament to their vision of fostering community development through innovative initiatives.
“Omce we are satisfied that the pitch surface is good enough to host international matches, we will begin work on the dressing rooms, vip section, spectator stands and a carpark. We believe in investing in projects that bring people together and create lasting impact,” said a company representative.
“The beach soccer pitches are a reflection of that commitment.”
With the countdown to the grand opening underway, Gweru is ready to embrace its new status as a beach soccer destination. For players, fans, and the community at large, the Sheasham Beach Soccer Pitches represent not just a sporting venue, but a symbol of progress and possibility.
