Prosecutor Mr Edmond Ndambakuwa told the court that during the period between February to March last year, Hassim approached the 48-year-old Tavistock Estate farmer in Beatrice and requested a supply of potatoes. Hassim allegedly misrepresented that he was going to pay through a bank transfer upon receiving the crop.

However, the unsuspecting farmer reportedly supplied him with the potatoes valued at US$38 060.
After receiving them, Hassim allegedly failed to pay as per agreement and became evasive.
