TWO Sisco Wholesalers security guards will fork out $150 each in fines, while the other one awaits trial after they assaulted a pregnant customer who was found in possession of an unpaid carton of bathing soap just outside the shop.

The court heard that Ellen Muyeri (25) was assaulted by the three guards.

Mutare magistrate Mr Poterai Gwezhira convicted Power Makwanire (47) and Kudakwashe Mavhunduke (29) on their own guilty pleas, while Gloria Hlahla denied the charges.

The case goes for trial on April 27.

The pair was sentenced to six months imprisonment of which three months were suspended on condition of good behaviour.

The remaining three months were also suspended in the event that they paid $150 each as fine.

Prosecuting was Mr Shepherd Chavarika.

It was the State’s case that the expecting Muyeri tried to steal a carton of bathing soap by concealing it in her skirt.

“Muyeri was caught as she tried to evade security at the exit door and all three accused persons took her to their office where they took turns to assault her with baton sticks and hands.

“Muyeri was medically examined and the doctor’s report states that she had bruises all over her thighs, feet, stomach, back and arms,” said Mr Chavarika.
