‘Six-year sex sanction causes man to turn to maid’

AFTER being subjected to a six-year sex embargo by his wife, a Bulawayo man, unable to endure the deprivation any longer, allegedly engaged in an affair with a maid.

This came to light when Miriam Sango, of Hillside suburb in Bulawayo, told the court that problems in her marriage began after she discovered used condoms in one of her husband’s trousers’ pockets.

Adding to her distress, Sango told the court that two weeks prior, she caught her husband, Mbusi Moyo, fondling their maid. When she questioned him about it, he became enraged and assaulted her.

“My husband and I have been having problems for some time,” she told the court.

“After I caught him with our maid in the bedroom, the problems in our marriage worsened significantly. As a result, I became depressed and unable to have sex with him. When I tried to talk to him about it, he assaulted and insulted me.”

Following this incident, Sango’s marital life spiralled further into turmoil.

“After I dismissed the maid, things at home deteriorated. My husband would sometimes come home late, and other times not at all. When he did return, he would become angry with me, accusing me of refusing to sleep with him. We would argue, and he would then assault me. Your Worship, I pray that this honourable court grants me a protection order,” she begged.

However, Moyo denied ever assaulting his wife, accusing her of denying him his conjugal rights.

“I have never beaten her. I usually just shout at her for refusing to sleep with me. She hasn’t had sex with me for six years now,” he said.

The presiding magistrate, Challenge Mahembe, granted her a protection order, preventing Moyo from physically and verbally abusing her. The order is valid for five years.
