Ras Tekken, a 21-year-old Zimdancehall artiste from Sizinda, Bulawayo, is determined to make 2025 his breakthrough year. Born Mpakhwe Panashe Dilone, the talented artiste has set ambitious goals, including collaborations with rising stars, releasing more music videos and addressing pressing social issues through his music.
Ras Tekken began his musical journey in 2019 with his debut single Pazvinenge Zvakandiomera. Since then, he has produced over 20 tracks, seamlessly blending Ndebele and Shona in his songs, showcasing versatility in both performance and song-writing. Known for his efficiency, Ras Tekken boasts an ability to produce two songs monthly. His recent singles, Kuyayenza Yini? and Ma Ngingena eStage have been well-received.
In an interview, Ras Tekken expressed excitement for the year ahead, having already released two singles.
“My job as an artiste is to cook and dish out good music,” he said, brimming with enthusiasm.
He explained that his motivation for collaborating with emerging artistes, rather than established ones, stems from a desire to bring fresh, organic energy to his music.
“I was moved and excited by the opportunity to collaborate with the rising artiste, Madedido. It reaffirms my belief in supporting and nurturing emerging talent — something I deeply value. By working with artistes like Madedido, I’m not only tapping into their unique sound and perspective but also contributing to the growth and development of the next generation of musicians.
“That’s why I’m focusing on more collaborations with up-and-coming talent,” he said.

Ras Tekken further highlighted the creative advantages of these partnerships.
“While collaborating with big artistes can be tempting, I believe it’s more impactful to work with someone like Madedido, who is eager to make a name for himself and brings a fresh energy to the table.
Established artistes often have defined styles and fan bases, which can sometimes limit creative freedom and innovation.
“Collaborating with rising talents allows for a more organic and exploratory process, where we can push boundaries and create something truly new and exciting. Plus, it’s a way to give back to the community and help launch the career of a deserving, talented artiste,” he added.
Ras Tekken also revealed that his music this year will be rich in both entertainment and education, tackling critical social issues like poverty and substance abuse.
“I want to collaborate with my fellow up-and-coming artistes to help each other address social challenges such as poverty, inequality and injustice, through music. These issues are harming our communities, and it’s time to use our voices to bring about change. Music has the power to unite, educate and inspire, and I believe that together, we can make a difference.”
Among his plans for the year are live shows and an anticipated album tour. Ras Tekken also dreams of gracing more significant platforms, like the Anti-Sanctions Gala in Esigodini last October, where he performed alongside some of Zimbabwe’s biggest stars. So far, the youngster’s musical journey has seen him share stages with industry heavyweights such as Nicholas Zacharia, Kae Chaps, Killer T, Jah Master and Chillspot Family at various events across Zimbabwe. He credits these experiences with helping him build valuable industry connections.
Citing Killer T as one of his inspirations, Ras Tekken revealed plans for an upcoming album featuring a host of talented artistes.
“I think I’m growing quickly, and I believe this year will be a turning point in my career,” he said confidently.
