Family spokesman Mr Mike Matapure yesterday said they did not expect the tests to take long.
“We’re also eagerly waiting for the results and their announcement should bring relief to us,” he said.
Although Given’s clothes were positively identified, police said that cannot conclusively link the missing child to the remains.
Harare provincial police spokesman Inspector James Sabau yesterday said they were waiting for the results of the DNA test.
In a DNA test, a doctor takes a sample from the body to test for it’s genetic material, the DNA, to see if it matches that of a close family member like a parent or a sibling. “The results are not yet ready and only when they are available can we be in a position to confirm that the remains belong to Given or not,” he said.
The parents confirmed that the belt, T-shirt, shoes and trousers found at the scene where the skeletons were found belonged to their child.
