PEOPLE like comedian Babongile Sikhonjwa may as well march into Skyz Metro FM studios and occupy all slots owing to his articulate manner and grasp of the country’s arts industry.
The station, which was licensed recently is searching for DJs, presenters and producers and judging from one of the shareholders’ sentiments, Sikhonjwa is what they are looking for.
Speaking during the station’s meeting with artistes in Bulawayo last week, Amakhosi Cultural Centre founder and Skyz Metro FM shareholder — Cont Mhlanga — commended Sikhonjwa on the great work he has been doing in the arts sector.
He said vacancies available at the radio station needed established people like Sikhonjwa in order to create competition among radio stations.
“Comedy is a very difficult field and if one doesn’t take it seriously, they’ll go nowhere. One has to be familiar with their crowd and know the appropriate subject and language for a certain audience.
“The young man (Sikhonjwa) knows the importance of crafting his comedy and studying the audience. He takes his job seriously and works with a goal. He understands art and that’s what makes him tick.
“I wouldn’t mind working with him on all our programmes. People should feel challenged if they want to work with the station and they shouldn’t complain when they hear the same voice on most of our programmes,” Mhlanga said.
He said he had invited Sikhonjwa to submit his proposal for a show of his choice as well as choose a slot, if his proposal meets their requirements.
Apart from Sikhonjwa, Mhlanga has also invited other veterans such as Luke Mkandla to submit their proposals.
“I believe that the people we’ve invited have experience and that they might have new great ideas which we might not have. It’s always good to work together,” he said.
Asked if he would take up a job offer at Skyz Metro FM, Sikhonjwa said he would take it without hesitation as it would be a lifetime opportunity.
He said he was working on a show proposal which he would present once he has mastered it.
“I’m yet to submit my proposal when I’ve a full understanding of what the station needs. I’ve been attending every meeting to do with the station to familiarise myself so that when I submit my proposal, won’t be rejected,” said Sikhonjwa.
Skyz Metro FM, which is expected to start broadcasting by end of August, will be centred around creating a certain personality that will see the station delivering informative, interesting and entertaining content.
