ABOMINATION!
A Nyanyadzi’s man’s anger and despise of his mother has made him to callously ill-treat her to the extent of kicking her out of her late husband’s homestead over witchcraft allegations.
The old lady now has nowhere to call home.
The elderly woman is also expected to raise US$600 for a cleansing ceremony to free her from the ‘witchcraft bondage’.
This emerged at Mutare Civil Court where Gogo Muzondwa Makuyana was applying for a protection order against her son, Ridgemond Nyamahu.
They appeared before Mutare magistrate, Mr Xavier Chipato who granted the protection order which is valid for a year.
The protection order barred Nyamahu from visiting Gogo Makuyana’s homestead to disturb her peace.
Nyamahu obliged and said he would not visit the homestead.
Gogo Makuyana said her son was forcing her to leave her matrimonial home and return to her parents’ home.
“He is my son. I carried him for nine good months in my womb, but today he is labelling me a witch. He visits my homestead to harass and threaten me.
“He is asking me to return to my parents’ home which I left more than 50 years ago when I was married by his father. I will not go anywhere. I will die at my late husband’s homestead,” said Gogo Makuyana.
She said Nyamahu was threatening to burn her in her house if she fails to vacate the homestead.
“He threatened to burn me inside my house if I do not leave the homestead. I am now scared. I cannot live in peace because of him. It is better if he stays at his own homestead,” she said.
Gogo Makuyana also said her son is leasing her piece of land to strangers and she has nowhere to farm.
She said she reported him to the village head and the chief, but no action was taken as they all support him.
“I took the matter to the local traditional leadership, but they never did anything to resolve this issue. They are sailing in the same boat. They are acting in connivance, but I will not leave my homestead which I toiled to build,” she said.
In response, Nyamahu did not dispute what his mother was saying.
“I do not have anything to say. She should be cleansed first at her parents’ home. The whole family is suffering because of her witchcraft shenanigans. We are having endless deaths in the family because of this woman. I will not sit back, fold my arms and smile while you give her a protection order to kill us all,” charged Nyamahu.
Nyamahu said it is the responsibility of his maternal uncles to facilitate their mother’s cleansing ceremony.
“Your worship, they are a tag team. They need to solve their family affairs alone. I am only, but a stranger to her. I cannot help her. She needs to leave our family and come back home after being cleansed. If I help her, I will face dire consequences.
“I cannot divulge all the information in this court, but I oppose the protection order because she will end up using it to dodge family meetings. It will be used as an alibi,” said Nyamahu.
