Squash tourney preps on course

The matches will be played at the Suburbs Squash Club and they begin tomorrow.
Sima Dixon, the association’s press and liaison committee officer, said:

“Preparations for our weekend tournament are going on very well and we are prepared for the big event.

“We will have 88 players in this tournament, 32 in the men’s Open singles, 32 in the women’s division, 16 doubles teams that will pair off and eight men in the veterans’ division. In the event that some expected players especially those from beyond borders do not come, we have some other players on standby who will fill that gap, mostly players who were juniors last year.”

She said there was uncertainty about the participation of some of the foreign-based players.

One Nigerian player said he was yet to get his visa to guarantee him entry into the country. Another Nigerian said he would arrive in Harare today to be in Bulawayo tomorrow in time for the registration.

Dixon said the Zambians and South Africans were expected to come in their numbers.

Harare will also bring a number of players for the tournament.

The draw will be held tomorrow in the evening at Suburbs.

Affiliation fees are pegged at $25 for singles and $40 for doubles per pair and the men’s open winner will walk away with $1 000 while the runner-up will get $500 and the third best $250.
