THE Sports and Recreation Commission (SRC) has hailed the late former National University of Science and Technology (Nust) Vice Chancellor Professor Lindela Ndlovu’s immense contribution in the development of sport in the country. In a condolence message, SRC director-general Charles Nhemachena said they had learnt of the passing away of Ndlovu with a deep sense of shock and sorrow.

“Ndlovu was not only an accomplished academic, but he also contributed immensely to sport and recreation development in the country. It was during his tenure that Nust introduced a Bachelors’ Degree in Sport Science and Coaching, which has seen many sport persons enrolling for, thus enriching their coaching skills and appreciation of the application of science in sport,” said Nhemachena.

“The SRC also benefited during his tenure when it signed a MoU (memorandum of understanding) with Nust, which resulted in it being an associate of the university through the running of the Diploma in Sport Studies across the country.” He said the country also drew from Ndlovu’s wisdom when hosting the African Union Sports Council Region 5 Under-20 Youth Games in December 2014.

Ndlovu, who collapsed and died on Wednesday last week, was laid to rest at Lady Stanely Cemetery in Bulawayo on Sunday.
