ALL is set for the Southern Region National Association of Secondary Heads (Nash) inter-district athletics finals to be held tomorrow and Friday.
Bulawayo Metropolitan Province inter-districts will be held at the National University of Science and Technology while Matabeleland South schools will converge at Dombodema High School.
Matabeleland North schools will be at Inyathi Mission.
The provinces will use the athletics meets to select their provincial squads that will compete at the national finals in Marondera later this month.
Cross country and field events are slated for tomorrow while the track events will be done on Friday.
Bulawayo has five districts Imbizo, Khami, Reigate, Mzilikazi and Bulawayo Central.
Bulawayo athletics headmaster-in-charge Peter Gambiza said preparations are at an advanced stage. “We had an officiating meeting today (yesterday) at Northlea High School to finalise on preparations. I hope everything will be in order by Thursday. We want to finish all our events in time,” said Gambiza.
He said the province is striving to produce a good team that can do the province proud in Marondera.
“Our target is to be on top. We are going to select a team that will bring us medals,” he said.
Sprinter and Townsend High School pupil Yvonne Vanhuvaone will be the star attraction as well as Emakhandeni Secondary School’s Patience Guruve.
Vanhuvaone came first in the National Athletics Association of Zimbabwe track and field 400m race held in the city last month.
Guruve is, without doubt, a rising middle distance athlete after doing wonders during the Kadoma meet last month.
Milton High School pupil Andile Khumalo will be another youngster to watch in the 400m race.
