Star FM’s “Sungura vs Zimdancehall” programme that has created debate since last year holds its grand finale on Saturday at Gwanzura Stadium where a lot of activities involving musicians from the genres take place.
DJs Skywalker and Templeman will open the day’s “After Bhora” party with their clash that will include fans’ votes while a live clash of musicians is set to settle the debate about popularity of the genres.
The live clash will have Soul Jah Love, Shinsoman, Freeman, Kinna, King Shady, Bontoman, Hwindi President and Dobba Don representing Zimdancehall while the sungura side will have Alick Macheso, Jah Prayzah, Suluman Chimbetu and Peter Moyo among others with Oliver Mtukudzi spicing up the clash.
Sungura and Zimdancehall have created debates with some arguing that dancehall has overtaken sungura that has dominated the industry for years.
Critics have been judging the response to the songs in public places and airplay without saying much on the responses at the live performances.
Though the list of dancehall artistes has no big names like Killer T and Winky D, it has some of the entertainers that have for many years thrilled fans.
Soul Jah Love has an album “Dai Hupenyu Hwaitengwa” that is fast becoming popular while Shinsoman’s “Best of Both Worlds” has songs that have stole the hearts of many music lovers.
Sungura side has Alick Macheso who has upped his game with new songs from his coming album “Tsoka Dzerwendo” while Jah Prayzah has ruled the roost with his album “Jerusarema.”
While fans have been judging the performance of the songs on different chats, another chance to give their conclusions basing on the performance and response of artists is definitely here.
Organiser of the event Patson Chimbodza said they have tried to come up with the best from all the genres so that people enjoy the music.
“Yes there has been a debate but what we want is entertainment at the end of the day. That is why you see the line-up for the music party is balanced,” he said.
In the afternoon the two groups will be fighting for supremacy in a soccer match.
