Zimbabwe Stock Exchange chief executive Alban Chirume yesterday sought to have his domestic violence trial stayed pending an out-of-court settlement.
Harare magistrate Mr Arnold Maburo adjourned the trail to February 23 pending “serious mediation” between the parties.
In a letter by Chirume’s lawyer, Ms Beatrice Mtetwa, co-signed by Chirume’s estranged wife, Susan Mutangadura’s lawyers, Kantor & Immerman Legal Practitioners, the couple wants both trials stopped.
They told the court that they were engaged in serious mediation to settle the matter amicably.
Chirume was the first to appear before Mr Maburo accused of assaulting Mutangadura.
A week later, Chirume also laid domestic violence charges against his estranged wife for punching and pinching him in the heat of a dispute.
Susan Mutangadura (44) appeared before Ms Nomsa Sabarauta.
She alleged that Chirume removed her property from No. 41 Harare Drive to No. 52 Borrowdale Road without her knowledge and approval.
Mutangadura drove to No. 41 Harare Drive and found the gate locked.
A security guard at the premises told Mutangadura that Chirume had instructed him not to allow her into the premises. The guard sought Chirume’s advice, but he was not forthcoming.
The court heard that Mutangadura scaled the precast wall to get into the house. While she was scaling the wall, Chirume came running out of the house and held Mutangadura by the legs.
A scuffle ensued as Mutangadura tried to free herself. She was bruised on both hands.
Chirume alleged that he came out of the house and saw Mutangadura sitting atop the pre-cast wall.
He held both her legs to restrain her and she attacked him, punching him several times on the head and bit him on the arm.
