EVERYONE deserves the chance to showcase their talent be it in prison or not. StarBrite has seen it fit to include people who are in prisons to audition for their talent search programme throughout the country.
In an interview, the executive director of the show, Barney Mupariwa said they have engaged some prisons in the country and so far they have done auditions in some of the prisons. He said StarBrite does not discriminate but accepts everyone.
“Our aim is to discover talent in this country and our doors are open to everyone who believes they have something to show.
There are many people in prison who have amazing talent and so if we don’t tap in there then they will not be discovered and that is wasted talent,” he said.
He said working with prisons was another way of providing rehabilitation and reform through talent discovery and nurturing.
“We can only achieve this goal by providing opportunities for the prison communities by making them participate and be involved in their rehabilitation and eventually find their way back into society through talent growth,” he said.
This year, things have changed for StarBrite as they have increased opportunities for people to take part in the show.
Mupariwa said they are now taking the StarBrite platform to the people by visiting different cities in the country so that they reach as many people as possible.
“Now people can register during the day of the auditions instead of registering or communicating through short message service (SMS). We realised that some people do not even watch ZTV or listen to Power FM so many people would miss out,” he said.
This year’s auditions started on 6 April and have been to cities such as Bulawayo, Harare, Kadoma and Kariba among others.
