DESPITE prominent warnings by the WWE against trying wrestling moves outside the promotion’s official rings, a man from Nkulumane tried the dangerous manoeuvres on his stepson, with dire consequences.
Lizwe Moyo (41) discovered the hard way that children are not sacks of maize after a playful moment turned into an expensive lesson.
A court fined him US$150 after he lifted his 13-year-old stepson and slammed him to the ground not once, not twice, but three times during “playtime.”
The incident happened on 14 May at their home.
According to prosecutor Tafara Dzimbanhete, Moyo was playing with the boy when things suddenly took a rough turn. Instead of keeping the game friendly, he allegedly grabbed the youngster, lifted him up and threw him to the ground three times.
The teenager suffered injuries and later underwent a medical examination.
Moyo’s moment “rough play” quickly turned into a police matter after a report was made.
He found himself trading home comforts for a courtroom appearance before Western Commonage magistrate Jeconia Prince Ncube.
The stepdad stood in disbelief in the dock as the law took a jaundiced view of his idea of playtime.
Magistrate Ncube convicted him of physical abuse and ordered him to pay a US$150 fine before 10 July.
Failure to pay will earn him a three-month stay behind bars.
The case serves as a reminder that when playing with children, there is a big difference between having fun and auditioning for a wrestling championship.
