STIFF competition is guaranteed at the 2024 Chibuku Road To Fame national finals this Saturday at the Glamis Arena in Harare.
With two days left before the event, all 10 groups will be vying for the US$15 000 grand prize that is up for grabs.
The second and third finalists will pocket US$7 000 and US$5 000 respectively.
The finalists are The Cousins (Midlands), Shanty Town (Mashonaland Central), Outlaws (Harare), Fugees Band (Matabeleland South), Pilgrims of Christ (Mashonaland East), Tawedzegwa (Bulawayo), Kweseka (Matabeleland North), Vibrant Band (Manicaland), Boom Jazz (Mashonaland West) and Panhimbe Crew (Masvingo).
Midlands Afro-fusion outfit, 911 Band, won last year’s edition.
Meanwhile, an after-party show headlined by Freeman will take place after the battle of the bands.
Other youthful musicians set to entertain festival-goers after the main competition include DJ Fantan of Chillspot Records, Master H, Poptain and Feli Nandi.
Judging by the line-up, it promises to be a fun-filled day as the country’s most sought-after youthful musicians will entertain revellers.
The pair of Master and Poptain, who are enjoying a purple patch, is tipped to steal the show. Known for their energetic performances, the duo hardly disappoints during live shows.
Freeman, who keeps on evolving with each year, is expected to show some maturity. Backed by a well-coordinated band, Freeman is no doubt the epitome of hard work and innovation.
The Chillspot Family is tipped to add variety, while Feli Nandi is also expected to put up a good show. The songbird’s act has vastly improved, which makes her one of the country’s most sought-after musicians of our time.
Chibuku Road To Fame is one of the programmes that has churned out stars, including Romeo Gasa who is now plying his trade in the United Kingdom.
The programme also equips finalists with grooming and etiquette lessons.
