IT seems like it will take something special to win the Zifa Central Region Soccer League title this season with very little separating the leading three teams after all recorded victories this past weekend.
Airforce side, Chapungu laboured to a 1-0 win against a determined Super Strikers with a Devine Sibanda goal in the second half undoing the Gwanda outfit.
They lead the way with 36 points, just one above second placed Blanket Mine who dispatched Shurugwi FC 3-0 at Sabiwa.
Kwekwe United occupies third place after a comfortable 2-0 win against Grain Tigers in a Kwekwe derby at Baghdad.
With just two matches before the mid-season break, it is a game of fine margins.
All the teams in the race for promotion are unrelenting and solid in their approach.
Leaders Chapungu admitted they are feeling the heat from the chasing pack after returning to winning ways following a draw in mid week.
“We are happy that we managed to bounce back to winning ways, it was a difficult game against a difficult side,” said assistant coach Moenda Muchingami.
“The games are coming thick and fast, these players and it is taking its toll on players.
“We are glad we won and we are still at the top, our hope is that we reach the half way mark at the apex and add a couple of players to take us over the line.”
Elsewhere, Gwanda Pirates’ dip in form continued after they suffered another setback in a 1-1 draw against Vhembe Stars Academy. They are now seven points behind the leaders in fourth place with 29 points.
Army side, Tongogara edged Good Morning 1-0 at Kotamai to go joint on 29 points with Gwanda Pirates.
The former Premiership side are still unbeaten and are slowly climbing up the ladder and could be a dark horse for promotion should any of the leading teams slip up.
