Boosted by trades in Delta and Old Mutual, revenue was US$3,47 million, a significant improvement from US$434 975 recorded on Wednesday, while lifting the weekly turnover to about US$4,89 million.
Despite registering two consecutive gains on Thursday and Friday, the industrial index dropped 0,2 percent compared with the previous week.
“The week has been characterised by low activity and this may persist for some time. I do not see much happening in the short-term future,” said one stockbroker.
“Many investors, particularly foreigners, have adopted a wait-and-see attitude especially with uncertainty over election,” said one stockbroker.
“There is still a liquidity challenge and with no immediate solution in sight, the market will remain depressed. Activity may only be seen in heavyweight counters, such as Innscor and Delta, but just a few.”
A report by Invictus Securities noted the uncertainties on the political landscape have resulted in investors taking a cautious approach.
While the economy has been generally growing since 2009, this has not seen the improvement in performance of the stock market.
The economy is widely expected to remain on a growth path. Gross Domestic Product has been on the rise, growing 8,4 percent in 2010 to an estimated 9,3 percent last year. It is projected to grow 9,4 percent this year.
Inflation remains within manageable levels.
After trades on Friday, Seed Co led the gainers, adding US8c to US90c.
Sugar producer Hippo advanced US5c to US100c while ABCH, BAT and Colcom rose by a cent each to trade at US66c, US196c and US31c respectively. Delta inched up US0,87c to settle at US70c.
On the downward size was Innscor which declined by US1 to US56c, Truworths dropped US0,19c to US4,80c and FCBH lost US0,15c to US5,85c. Ariston Holdings retreated US0,10c to US1,10c.
