POLICE in Kwekwe have bust a suspected cattle rustling syndicate, recovering seven head of cattle.
The cattle were taken from Lyons Farm, Redcliff, between April 2023 and January 2026.
Midlands Provincial police spokesperson Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko said the suspects, identified as Lameck Moyo (38), Themba Bhebhe (50), Petros Bhebhe (25) and Andrew Bhebhe (29) were arrested on February 9 at Village Mathambekha, Lower Gweru.
“The Zimbabwe Republic Police has busted a suspected notorious stock theft syndicate, with four suspects being arrested and seven out of 24 cattle stolen from three complainants recovered in Kwekwe.
“The cattle were stolen from the complainants, holders of three different plots in Lyons Farm, Redcliff, during a period extending from April 2023 to January 2026,” he said.
Insp Mahoko said the arrests were made on February 9 at Village Mathambekha, under Chief Sogwala in Lower Gweru, when police reacted to a tip-off.
“The tip-off was to the effect that some cattle were being gathered for market at Village Mathambekha Chief Sogwala, Lower Gweru,” he said.
After the arrest, Insp Mahoko said police managed to recover 12 cattle, of which seven were positively identified by their owners from Lyons Farm, Redcliff and five cattle are yet to be identified.
“Complainant Irvine Sibanda, who had eight cattle stolen from him, identified two. Complainant Charles Ndebele identified three of the five cattle stolen from him. Lastly, Ndakupa Hwai had his 11 cattle stolen and positively identified two from the recovered loot. The 24 cattle stolen from the three complainants are valued at US$7 400 and the identified seven are valued at $3 750.
Police are calling for people in and around Kwekwe [Redcliff], who might have fallen victim to stock thefts to approach Redcliff Police Station and assist in identifying the remaining cattle.
