ZMC’s demands come at a time when Manjokoto is reported to have sealed another recording deal with Metro Studios.
In an interview, Manjokoto told Saturday Leisure that ZMC had been cheating him for a long time hence his decision to engage another recording company.
“I have been working with ZMC for a long time and to be honest these guys have been cheating me.
They made promises which they never fulfilled,” he said.
Manjokoto said sometime last year the directors of ZMC promised to buy him new musical equipment and a house if he recorded an album with them.
“I recorded my last album with ZMC as per agreement but they are yet to meet their part of the bargain.
“My parents back home are complaining because they expect me to put food on the table so I was left with no option but to engage another recording company,” he said.
The musician is reported to have received a new set of musical instruments from his new recording studio as part of their contract.
“I have since struck a new deal with Metro Studios and already I got a new set of instruments as part of the deal that we singned,” he said.
Manjokoto said ZMC was demanding $4 000 as compensation for a breach of contract but they were yet to give him some of his works that he recorded with them in the past.
“ZMC are demanding compensation for what they are saying is a breach of contract yet they are holding onto my works that I recorded with them,” he said.
The energetic sungura musician said it was ZMC which was in breach of contract because they did not do what they promised him.
“I know my rights as a musician and I have told them that I am not going to pay that amount because they have not honoured their promises,” he said.
When contacted for comment, Zimbabwe Music Coperation Managing Director, Emmanuel Vori said he was only prepared to talk about Taruvinga’s issue in his presence because the company had a written contract with him.
“Taruvinga has been going around misrepresenting facts about his contract with us but we have a copy of the written contract that he signed.
“So if you can organise a meeting for the three of us anywhere in Zimbabwe I am prepared to drive and meet you guys so that we can iron out this issue,” he said.
Sometime last year Taruvinga also fought with Last Power Recording Studios which he also accused of not honouring their promises.
The Mairos and Juliana hit-maker broke into the music scene in 2003 with his album titled Zvirimukati and this album has songs such as Pandaironga, Yofamba Famba, Samaita, Juliana and Kure kure kwakaenda.
