Zvishavane councillor arrested over stand

The stand is at Number 5 108 in the Mandava home industry area.
Chimedza of House Number 139 Mandava yesterday appeared before Zvishavane magistrate Mr Peter Madiba facing charges of fraud.

The councillor, who was not represented, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
He was remanded out of custody on $50 bail to 30 October.

For the State, Mr Stanley Ncube said on 4 June last year, at Chivasa and Associates Legal Practitioners in Zvishavane, Chimedza sold an undeveloped commercial stand, Number 5 108 situated in Mandava to Mr Tendekai Madzivire for $6 000.

Mr Ncube said the councillor unlawfully and intentionally misrepresented facts to Mr Madzivire that the commercial stand in question belonged to him.

He said it later emerged that Chimedza had earlier on sold the same commercial stand to Ms Ashwell Ruswa for $6 000 as well.

Ms Ruswa made a report to the police leading to the arrest of Chimedza.
Mr Ncube said the case had to be deferred for further investigations to be carried out.
He said the court sent back the documents to the police to allow them time to plug loopholes in the case.
