A Sunningdale supermarket on Tuesday lost cash to thieves after the manager allegedly left safe keys inside the shop.
Choppies Supermarket lost a total of US$14 169 when suspected thieves used an iron bar to gain entry into the cash office.
It is claimed that the manager had left the keys inside the shop while an alarm system at the supermarket did not respond during the break-in.
The thieves were suspected to have used an open roof at the warehouse and broke two safes, one for Choppies Supermarket where they stole US$9000 and that of Hello Paisa, which is situated inside the shop, and stole US$5169.
Harare provincial police spokesperson Inspector Luckmore Chakanza confirmed the case.
“Police are investigating an unlawful entry and theft at a supermarket in Sunningdale.
“Total value stolen is US$14 169 and nothing was recovered,” said Insp Chakanza.
