ZIMBABWE Prisons and Correctional Services netball team Tanex Queens got off to a decent start in their super league campaign with two wins and one loss.
In their opening match, they played against Harare-based side Waru Waru and fought hard to win 41-31. This was followed by a 41-31 defeat at the hands of the defending champions, Nehanda.
The ‘‘Prison Girls’’, as Tanex are affectionately known, went on to thrash a determined Morris Depot 47-37 in their third assignment. Tenax, who finished fourth last season, believe that they have what it takes to win the championship.
“We have started on a high note and we believe we can go far. We are also fighting for the championship this year and we have put our house in order and geared up for the season.
“We lost to Nehanda because we made a lot of mistakes which our opponents capitalised on. We will fight to the end and I know this time we will get it right,” said Tenax Queens coach Naftali Nyanguru.
Meanwhile, Mutare City Queens, who are making a comeback into the top flight, got their 2015 Super League to a forgettable start after losing 3 of their 4 matches.
After three years of toiling in the less fashionable Division One league, the Mutare City Council-owned side have bounced back into the elite league. Mutare Queens played against the defending champions Nehanda and were defeated 56-15 before drawing 26-26 with the visiting Harare side Morris Depot.
Last weekend, they played against Beta Queens and were dismissed 47-21 before suffering another loss 32-29 at the hands of Support Unit.
“We have good players and we are ready to battle for honours. We are looking forward to adding one or two players. The house is in order and in terms of sponsorship we cannot complain, so far so good,” said the Mutare City mentor, Simba Nenhunzi.
