THERE is an old adage that says three things cannot be long hidden; the sun, the moon and the truth.
This happened in the on-going case of the lecturer (name withheld) being tormented by the spirit of her departed mother that seeks appeasement for over a year now.
The spirit of the departed mother, identified as Juliet Kondai-Bepete, seeks appeasement and claims she was murdered by her husband’s brother’s wife, Dorcas Bepete.
The spirit which has been manifesting on her is now troubling the lecturer and threatening to destroy her marriage and profession.
The case has been on-going at Chief Zimunya’s court since September last year.
Last week Sunday, Dorcas, after being grilled by assessors at the Chief’s courts finally burst in outrage and told the court she had accomplices.
She asked why they (her accomplices) were also not being hauled before the court.
“Why am I the only one being trialed when mai Nyama and Mai Chiripanhura are also involved in this matter?” said Dorcas to the astonishment of the court.
Before Dorcas opened the Pandora’s box, acting Chief Zimunya had threatened to slap her and her husband, Bauline, with a fine for wasting the court’s time.
Bauline had again failed to summon to court his in-laws from the Chikata family. Acting Chief Zimunya was infuriated to hear at the court that contrary to what Dorcas was lying about, one of her brothers actually worked in Mutare.
In a humiliating moment, Chief Zimunya instructed Dorcas to remove her African headgear (doek) to check whether she was carrying any supernatural charms with her like the last time.
The Bepete case has been appearing at Chief Zimunya’s court since September last year. Last year, two summons were issued out by Chief Zimunya to Dorcas for her to appear before the court to answer allegations levelled against her, but she was defiant. Bauline, who is said to be under her spell failed to bring her to court until Chief Zimunya sent his aide to travel to Marange to subpoena Dorcas’ relatives to attend court.
Chief Zimunya instructed Dorcas and the Bepete family to bring Dorcas’ brothers to court without fail on April 26 so that the matter could be resolved.
He said for the matter to be put to rest, it required the presence of all family members.
