IN A DRAMATIC incident, a man from Barbourfields suburb in Bulawayo reportedly turned his wife into a punching bag and threw her clothes outside the house.
Adolf Matsungo, who was a teacher at Mzilikazi High School and was recently acquitted for allegedly raping his student has been arrested again for allegedly punching and kicking his wife.
The source said: “Matsungo phoned his wife and told her that he was no longer interested in her. He told her to come home and collect her clothes and other belongings. When his wife, Mercy Marandu arrived, she was shocked to find her clothes in the yard. After that, she asked to collect her plates and belongings in the house but Matsungo refused and blocked her from entering.”
The source said that Matsungo allegedly manhandled his wife, punched her in the face and pulled her hair.
“He dragged her and also kicked her in the face,” said the source.
After that, Marandu left for her home. A family member who requested not to be named said Matsungo again phoned his wife to come and collect her money.
“Last week on Thursday, he phoned her to come and collect her money. His wife went there. While he was there, an argument broke out and in the heat of the moment he kicked her in the mouth. He also smashed her phone on the ground,” said the source.
Marandu reported the incident to the police, leading to the arrest of Matsungo. She sought medical attention at Mpilo Central Hospital.
Matsungo is set to appear in court. Bulawayo Provincial Spokesperson, Inspector Abednico Ncube confirmed the incident.
“We discourage members of the public from resorting to violence when they are faced with disputes. But they should engage third parties such as elders in the community, pastors, or police,” he said.
