Teenage thief jailed 6 months

THE desire by a Mutare teenager to own an i-Pad 3 and a Samsung 1600 by stealing from a Victory Tabernacle Church pastor has turned his life into a nightmare after he was slapped with a six-month jail term. The unrepentant Talkmore Chinyanga (19) has a previous conviction on similar theft charges. “This is not your first time to appear in court facing a similar charge of theft in less than six months. Therefore I will not sentence you, but simply take the pending sentence,” said Mutare magistrate, Mrs. Annie Ndiraya.

Representing the State, public prosecutor, Mr Cuthbert Bhosha, said Chinyanga broke into Pastor Ngoreta Mwedzi’s house and stole an i-Pad 3 and a Samsung cell phone valued at $930. The court heard that on October 27, around midnight, Chinyanga crawled through the fence and gained entry into the complainant’s house through a toilet window.

“He proceeded to the bedroom where Mwedzi was sleeping and stole the goods which were on the dressing table,” said Mr Bhosha.
Luckily the complainant was awakened by the movements and raised alarm, but it was too late since Chinyanga had disappeared into the dark.
The following day, a police report was made. Investigations led to Chinyanga’s arrest and the recovery of part of the stolen property.
