Teenager killed in train accident

A NYAZURA teenager (14) died on the spot after being hit by a train along the Mutare-Harare Railway Line last Saturday.Manicaland provincial police spokesperson, Inspector Enock Chishiri, confirmed the death of Florence Japan Kasium who died on the spot after being hit by a train at the Nyazura River Railway Bridge.

“Florence was in the company of Joice Chiedza (12), Lillian Alphera (11) and four other children when they left home to search for firewood at Bishi Farm. While they were looking for the firewood, a train approached and the group started running in front of the train in a footpath that is a few metres from the railway line.

“Florence who was behind was hit by the train and died on the spot. The train did not stop,” said Insp Chishiri.

Natalia Chikomo who was among the children ran home and told Florence’s uncle, Maxwell Japan (38), who later made a police report.

Police have urged parents to discourage children from playing near railway lines as they risk losing their lives.
