Telecel increases kiosks countrywide

Mobile phone company Telecel Zimbabwe says it has increased its retail presence across the country and now has 500 kiosks that offer a wide range of products and services to its subscribers. By September this year, the company had 200 Telecel branded kiosks that offered services including airtime sales to both end users and vendors, SIM cards, line re-connections as well cash-in and cash-out transactions.

Telecel communications and branding director, Obert Mandimika said the retail expansion programme, which started in July, was on course. Mr Mandimika said the company was satisfied with the progress made so far in increasing its retail foot print.

“Our retail expansion program is far from over. Telecel intends to continue to focus on the convenience that our customers have come to expect from our brand and we promise to continue innovation to deliver on our customers’ expectations,” he said.

“The retail expansion initiative is not only beneficial to Telecel and our customers. It goes further to offer business opportunities to local entrepreneurs who have a chance to partner us in running the kiosks or franchises.”

The kiosk business, which has been adopted by all the country’s three mobile phone operators, has been lauded for creating employment for thousands of people as well as deepening the reach of the networks.

Telecel is the country’s smallest mobile phone network provider by subscriber base, with an estimated 4,4 million subscribers at the end of the first quarter of 2015 and enjoys a 17,5 share of the mobile market. — New Ziana
