Tenax upstage Auckland

TENAX Queens produced a major upset when they sent visiting Auckland Queens packing in a National Women Supper League match played at Sakubva Stadium last Saturday. The Prison Girls were thrust into the lead through veteran star Maria Lifa in the 18th minute after she tapped in a well-taken Grace “Damage” Machiha free-kick.

It seems the Tapu-Tapu Girls, as Tenax is affectionately known, are now in contention.

Auckland, which is second-placed on the log standings, were totally outplayed but tried in vain to come back into the game.

The Harare Giants tried all their tricks, but could not break the rock-solid Tenax defence.

After the breather, Tenax continued hunting for a goal from all flanks. Just a minute away from the final whistle, Gladys Mamvura released a scorcher from a free-kick awarded to them after Machiha was brought down in the 89th minute.

The scorcher hit the back of the nets to leave the score-line standing at 2-0 in favour of the home team.

Auckland Girls have played nine matches and have amassed 22 points. Last Saturday’s defeat was their third one of the season.

Mutare’s representatives, Tenax Queens, are on sixth position with 13 points and have played the same number of matches.

Results of other matches played: Chipembere 2, Hwange 1; Aces Academy 0 ZRP Hwange 1 and Mufakose Queens 1, Flame Lilly 1.

Ends.
