MUTARE Pool League spokesperson, Taurai “Coartmeter” Makanidzana, proved that he is one of the top pool players after scooping the second edition of the one-man pool tournament played in the city last weekend.The two-day tournament was played at Alley Sporting Bar at Max Shopping Centre in Palmerstone.
For his efforts, Makanidzana pocketed US$250, while second-placed Wayne Nemaunga of Vac-phone Pool Club received US$200.
In third place was little-known Munyaradzi Nedziwa, who walked away US$150 richer.
Far-Post best player, Trust Matsikure, smiled all the way home with US$90 in his pocket after emerging the fourth best player, while Carve-Lake player, Morgan Chipara, was fifth placed and scooped US$70.
Not to be outdone, Mutare Pool League chairman, Steven “Stavo” Chingingwi, was among the top 10 players and took home US$50 as a consolation prize.
In the women’s category, Sekai Marimo was in a class of her own and snatched the pole position.
Commenting on last weekend’s tournament, Makanidzana said: “The most interesting part of the competition is that I managed to return my title as Mutare’s number one player. I want to thank my teammates at Munongedzo for their support. Special mention also goes to our supporters.”
Makanidzana also paid tribute to their sponsors, Savanah Pacific, the manufacturers of the Pacific cigarette brand.
“Above all, the tournament went on very well.
“Most players showed great improvement in their play, making the sport more competitive and interesting.
“We want to heartily thank our sponsors, Savanah Pacific, for their continuous support,” said Makanidzana.
