GOVERNMENT through the Civil Protection Committee has provided 60 tents as temporary shelter to villagers in Chipinge who had their homes recently destroyed by Tropical Storm Ana.

Affected villagers in wards Six and Nine were the beneficiaries as this was the district’s most affected areas.

Assistant Chipinge District Development Coordinator, Mr Tedious Beto said the temporary shelter will provide relief to the victims.

“Government has availed 60 tents to the district as temporary shelter to victims of Tropical Storm Ana. We are working with the Civil Protection Committee’s shelter cluster for distribution modalities. Wards Six and Nine were the most affected and the victims are receiving the tents,” said Mr Beto.

He said they are still tallying the numbers of the affected households.

Chipinge Rural District Council Ward Nine councillor, Councillor Habit Magona said the initiative is a welcome development.

He encouraged the community to build strong structures that can withstand the vagaries of natural disasters.
