Tertiary institutions have been challenged to embrace innovation to ensure the nation produces entrepreneurs who will move the nation forward under the Second Republic’s heritage-based Education 5.0.
This innovative approach aims to produce entrepreneurs rather than job seekers, driving the nation towards an innovation-led and knowledge-driven economy.
Speaking at the 42nd graduation ceremony of the Public Service Commission (PSC)’s Domboshava Training Academy held yesterday, University of Zimbabwe Vice Chancellor Professor Paul Mapfumo, who was represented by Professor Stanzia Moyo, said innovation hubs had been established at tertiary institutions across the country to promote heritage-based Education 5.0 for the industrialisation and modernisation of Zimbabwe.
“Our learning is now centred on problem-solving in the workplace or the communities in which we reside. Critical thinking, problem-solving, and analytical skills become part of our make-up.
“Go forth and preach the gospel of teaching, research, community service, innovation, and industrialisation.
“As we embrace Vision 2030, this transformation is essential for developing professionals who can navigate, innovate, and lead in a dynamic global environment,” he said.
Principal of PSC Domboshava Campus Mr Tinashe Kamumvuri said the academy was committed to strengthening partnerships that promoted academic excellence, research, and innovation and was proud of producing graduates with relevant skills and competencies that prepared them for the job market and entrepreneurial ventures.
“To our graduates, let your light shine as you make giant leaps into the world. Be agents of transformation and ambassadors of excellence.
“Embrace servant leadership and contribute to building a prosperous nation,” he said.
In a speech read on his behalf, PSC Commissioner Mr Larry Mavima said modernisation, sustainability, innovation and partnerships were vital in responding to the challenges of the future.
“One of the educational transformations in higher learning institutions is the adoption of Education 5.0. It is a philosophy. In practice, Education 5.0 encourages problem solving, innovation and generation of wealth hence graduates will become innovators and creators,” he said. Thirty-five students graduated after completion of a diploma course in Community Development and Local Government Administration.
