AmaZulu striker Thando Ngwenya has returned to full training after completing his rehabilitation from the foot injury that sidelined him for the final two months of the 2025/26 South African Betway Premiership football season.
The Zimbabwean forward is now back with his teammates as preparations intensify for the new campaign, providing a timely boost for both the club and the player following a frustrating spell on the sidelines.
Ngwenya suffered the injury during the closing stages of last season, forcing him to miss AmaZulu’s run-in as the Durban-based side concluded its Betway Premiership campaign without one of its attacking options.
Speaking after rejoining full training, Ngwenya expressed his delight at putting the injury behind him and returning to the pitch.
“It feels good to be back doing what I love. The rehabilitation process wasn’t easy, but I remained patient and trusted everyone who helped me through it. I’m grateful to be training with the team again,” said Ngwenya.
The striker admitted the injury was mentally challenging, particularly watching matches from the stands while his teammates battled through the closing weeks of the season.
“There were difficult moments because every player wants to be out there helping the team. I used that period to become stronger physically and mentally, and now my focus is on getting back to my best.”
Ngwenya said his immediate target is to regain full match fitness before setting his sights on contributing goals and strong performances in the upcoming season.
“My objective is to work hard every day, earn my place in the team, and help the club achieve its goals. I also hope to stay injury-free and enjoy my football again.”
His return is expected to strengthen AmaZulu’s attacking options as the club steps up preparations for the 2026/27 campaign.
