BULAWAYO giants Highlanders have rolled out the red carpet for flashy businessman Wicknell Chivayo after he pledged US$1 million sponsorship to the club.
Chivayo, never one to do things quietly, made the blockbuster announcement on social media, revealing that the deal kicks off with a cool US$250 000 in hard cash, with the rest coming in tranches over the next 12 months.
The mega deal is in honour of the late Vice-President John Landa Nkomo who was a die-hard Highlanders fan and Chivayo’s uncle.
In a statement dripping with gratitude, Bosso hailed the windfall as a “transformative gift” that will revamp the club’s image, boost staff welfare, and push them towards financial self-sustainability.
“This remarkable contribution will significantly enhance our ability to positively change the trajectory of the club,” read part of the club’s glowing tribute to Chivayo.
“We extend our sincerest appreciation to Sir Wicknell Chivayo for his exceptional philanthropy… This donation demonstrates his deep connection to our club and dedication to making a meaningful impact.”
To make sure every cent is accounted for, Chivayo has roped in Jabulani Nkomo, a son of the late VP, to act as curator of the funds. He’ll be the watchdog working hand-in-hand with the Highlanders executive to keep the financial ship steady.
Bosso fans can now dare to dream with a million-dollar revival!
