FINANCIALLY crippled Harare giants Dynamos have pulled out of the 2025-26 CAF Confederation Cup, citing crippling costs and lack of a certified home ground.
The once-mighty Glamour Boys, who had booked their continental ticket by clinching back-to-back Chibuku Super Cup titles under Lloyd Chigowe, say they’re simply too broke to compete.
“We’re not going,” confirmed club board chairman Bernad Marriot. “Without a CAF-approved stadium locally, it’s too expensive to host matches outside the country. It’s a financial nightmare.”
DeMbare’s exit is a blow to Zimbabwe’s already battered football pride. With the National Sports Stadium still blacklisted by CAF for failing to meet minimum standards, Dynamos were facing the prospect of relocating to Botswana again for “home” games.
The move left the club deep in the red last season, especially after failing to make it past the preliminaries and losing out on a US$400 000 CAF group stage windfall. They had to settle for a measly US$50 000 instead.
Now with the same challenges still haunting them and no lifeline in sight, Dynamos have thrown in the towel.
Simba Bhora, crowned kings of the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League, remain the country’s only hope in continental football this season. For DeMbare, the lights are out and the dream is over.
