The weapons of our warfare

Looking at the unseen

2 CORINTHIANS 10:3-5
For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war after the flesh: [4] (For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;) [5] Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ;
We are in the flesh, but we do not conduct our warfare in the flesh. The warfare we are engaged in is not of flesh and blood. It is spiritual. Christians do not walk by sight; they walk by faith. Things that are seen are temporary but things that are not seen are eternal.
In our warfare, God has equipped us with weapons. Our weapons are mighty. They pull down strongholds. They cast down evil imaginations and everything that exalts itself above the knowledge of God. The weapons when used, capture the enemy, of thoughts that are against God, and bring them into subjection. Our weapons cause the enemy armies to surrender and be subject to Christ. Paul uses the language of war. We are in the Lord’s army.
They are mighty. God gave a believer the Word. It is a weapon of mass destruction. The weapon is more potent than an atomic bomb. By the Word of God, Jesus defeated the devil when He was tempted.
In Ephesians 6:10-18, the Bible confirms that we wrestle against spiritual wickedness, powers and principalities. But It also tells us that God has provided us with armour and weapons. It says:
Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might. [11] Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. [12] For we wrestle, not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. [13] Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. [14] Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness; [15] And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace; [16] Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked. [17] And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God: [18] Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints.
We wrestle against spiritual powers and rulers of darkness. While we look to things we see, there are spirits that motivate them from behind. Go behind what your eyes declare. Go beyond what your body declares. Things do not just happen unless there is a force behind them. While you walk in the flesh, be alert to what is in the spirit.
The chest where the heart, which the Bible in Proverbs 4:23, admonishes us to guard, is protected by the breastplate of righteousness, the head by helmet of salvation, the feet by the protective shoes of the preparation of the Gospel and the whole body by the shield of faith. Faith is an overcomer. Faith knows no defeat.
The loins are girded by the truth, upon which all the armour clutches for steadiness and stability. All faith and other Christian armour rests on the Truth, The Word is the Truth. God is not only worshipped in spirit but in Truth. The Truth shall set you free.
When your heart is protected by the shield of faith, nothing of the devil can penetrate your chest. When you are saved, the helmet of salvation will not permit evil imaginations and doubt to enter your head. When you wear protective shoes, you can step on scorpions and serpents.
Of all the itemised armour, there is no provision to cover the back. God does not expect you to turn and run away from the enemy. There is no retreat in God. The Bible presupposes that you are an overcomer. You are not made of stuff that turns its back on the devil. You will drive the enemy.
After you put on the protective armour, take the sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God, in your hands, as a weapon for attack. Take also prayer and supplication with which to pull down strongholds. Prayer changes things.
The weapons of our warfare have been tested and tried, or God would not have given us that armour if it was not effective.
