A 38-YEAR-OLD Chikanga man was sentenced to a three-month jail term or pay a fine of $150 for insulting his ex-wife.

Itai Kangwende was convicted on his own plea by Mutare senior magistrate, Mrs Sekai Chiundura for sending abusive and insulting messages to Joyce Kangwende through the phone. Mr Donald Mudadirwa told the court that on August 15 Kangwende sent an abusive and insulting message to his ex-wife, Joyce who also resides in Chikanga.

His intentions were to cause emotional pain to her after she had refused to give him custody of their child. Itai told the court: “I was requesting to take my child during the school holidays, but she refused to release the child. That is when I sent the insulting messages.”

Asked why he acted in that manner, Itai said he was not aware that he was committing an offence.
