A FORMER drug addict, Brian Mulipah, who has been on a crusade helping recovering drug addicts around the continent, says he is back home to make a difference in the battle against drugs and substance abuse.
Brian started using drugs at the age of 11, in 1991, when he was in Grade Six.
He was addicted to marijuana and diazepam and also used to consume a lot of alcohol.
Mulipah said he sold drugs for five years, which worsened his addiction.
He later got help from a local Christian organisation and went to the Netherlands for training on counselling other addicts.
“I have helped many people outside Zimbabwe in countries such as Madagascar, Tanzania and Kenya.
“I now want to intensify my work in Zimbabwe as I am now based in here full-time and this can only give me a sense of fulfilment as I am playing my part in all the collective efforts being done by various stakeholders in fighting the drug menace.”
He first trained in Europe before returning to Africa.
“After the Netherlands, I went and further trained in Egypt.
“I later on did an addiction professional training programme in the United States.
“I am now helping other drug addicts to overcome and break free from their addictions and it gives me a sense of fulfilment as it’s something that I also went through and it helps me to let them know that they are not alone.”
