THE Castle Lager Premier Soccer League championship race has reached fever pitch with Zvishavane based FC Platinum who are sitting on the apex of the log standings proving to be the most consistent club in the last five games.

The platinum miners have amassed a total of 38 points after collecting 12 points from a possible 15 from their last five games. This means Norman Mapezaas mentored side has a success rate of 80% ahead of their Week 19 tie against Mutare City set for Saturday at Mandava Stadium.

After drawing nil all with CAPS UnitedA and being held to a nil all draw by visiting Hwange in their Week 18 and Week 17 encounters respectively, platinum had posted three consecutive wins. The edged Chicken Inn 1-0 in Bulawayo before they went for back to back identical one nil triumphs over Bulawayo City.

Their form record reads:

Second placed CAPS United have also been enjoying their game in the process collecting 11 points from a possible 15 from their last five games.

Consequently, their success rate stands at 67% as they look forward to making their long trip to Hwange for a date against unpredictable Chipangano deep in the bowels of Colliery Stadium on Sunday. In their last five games, Makekepekepe edged Highlanders 1-0 in Harare, a club that had beat them on an identical score-line in the reverse fixture that was played at Babourfields Stadium. The Green Machine accounted for Tsholotsho FC twice, beating them 2-0 in the capital and 1-0 in Bulawayo before they went on to play a nil all draw against FC Platinum last Saturday.

CAPS Unitedas form guard reads:

D AA AWAA AWAA ALAA AW

Highlanders, who sit on third position, really donat know what has hit them. Simply put, the centre cannot hold at Bosso. They have amassed a paltry four points out of 15 from their last five matches. The calculator points to the fact that they are sitting on a wanting success rate of 27% as they prepare to do battle against equally struggling Chicken Inn in a derby tie set for Barbourfields Stadium on Sunday.

Bosso have went down thrice in a row (2-1 to Triangle, 2-1 Mutare City and 1-0 to CAPS United).A In the reverse leg against Triangle played at Emagumeni the two teams played a goalless draw and this was after Bosso had edged Makepekepe 1-0 in their Week 15 tie that was also played at the same venue.

Bosso should be pressing panic buttons.

Their form guard reads:

LAA ALAA AL AA ADAA AW

Just like their adversaries, Dynamos are also seeking to regain their momentum. The former league champions are also in the same bracket with Highlanders having managed to get four points out of 15 from their last five encounters. Their success rate is also at worrying 27% as they prepare to do battle against Bulawayo City at Rufaro Stadium on Sunday.

DeMbare are smarting from a shock 2-1 defeat at the hands of newboys Border Strikers.A This was after they were held to two goalless draws by Kelvin Kainduas How Mine in Bulawayo and in Harare.

DeMbare also went on to play two nil all draws against ZPC Kariba (home and away)

The form guard: L AA A D AA ADAA ADAA AD, clearly suggests it has been a dry spell for the Glamour Boys.

Reigning league champions Chicken Inn are also singing the blues after posting a single win, two draws and two loses in their last five games. They have a success rate of 33% percent ahead of their potentially explosive derby tie against Bosso.

With a form guard of AA AD AA AL AA AWAA ALAA AD, it vividly suggests inconsistency within the Gamecocks camp who reportedly held an emergency meeting with the clubas head coach Rahman Gumbo last Saturday night after being held to a 0-0 draw by Chapungu.

Meanwhile, in other Week 19 fixtures Ngezi Platinum will playhost to fellow miners How Mine at Baobab on Saturday. Bruised Harare City will take on buoyant Border Strikers at Rufaro Stadium while Chapungu will be home to ZPC Kariba. Tsholotsho FC entertain Triangle United at Luveve Stadium.
