The first edition of Zimbabwean kids pageant Zim Toddlers and Tiaras was held at the Rainbow Towers last weekend and revellers witnessed the crowning of little Ropafadzo Ganizani as the Queen.
The event also witnessed the crowning of Kaila Berry as the 1st Princess and Nokutenda Mudzekeyi as the 2nd Princess as well as Divya Chauhan who was crowned Miss personality.
The queen for the pageant received several prizes including tickets to Long Cheng Amusement Park, a photo shoot, party packs, swimming lessons, synthetic hair and beauty as well as products hampers courtesy of several sponsors.
The criteria used to select winners included their introduction, talent and how they walked.
The little boys were not left out as they showcased their modelling skills and Brooklyn Nengomasha emerged the King.
“Am so glad I managed to win this competition, it feels so good am delighted,” said Nengomasha.
The winners expressed their happiness as they posed for photo shoots with the organisers of the event as well as guest of honour.
Zimpraise Kids as well as award-winning Thembalami entertained guests with several songs at different intervals throughout the whole procession. Inspired by TLC TV reality show Toddlers and Sashes Pageant, the organiser said that she was happy to pioneer such a pageant in Zimbabwe and hopes to improve it every year.
However, the first edition of the pageant was marred by glitches which prove that a lot still needs to done to improve and make the pageant a force to reckon with.
For starters, the event began a bit later than scheduled and also some of the models seemed not aware of what was taking place and which questions the criterion used to select models on the auditions. The little girls could be seen roaming everywhere in the auditorium as the procession was taking place and also some of their stage presentations reflected that there was little coaching done so as to improve their skills.
Despite all the glitches the organisers were glad that they pioneered such a pageant.
