THE ZIFA Eastern Region football has welcomed a new kid on the block following the establishment and registration of Hunyani United Football Club in the Mashonaland East Division Two league.
The new side was officially registered last Friday.
The club is the brainchild of Deputy Minister of Tourism and Hospitality Industry Tongai Mafidi Mnangagwa.
Club patron and founder, Mnangagwa is thrilled about the development.
“This is a proud moment for us, and we are committed to nurturing local talent and promoting football in the region, particularly in Hunyani Constituency. This club has been founded to give youth in the constituency a platform to showcase their talents. Only players from Hunyani will be signed for the club. We have a clear vision for the club, and we are excited to see it come to life,” said Mnangagwa.
The club’s leadership has Jeremy Tongai Mnangagwa at the helm as chairman.
He has brought in a solid team, including Basil Makoni as coach, Knowmore Chiveve as team manager, and Armstrong Chimanimire handling kit duties.
“We are focused on building a strong team spirit and developing players who can make it to the top,” said the club chairman.
That only youths from Hunyani can lace up for this team is a unique approach, but one that could pay off in developing local talent.
“We are not looking to buy our way to success. We want to grow the game from the grassroots level, and this is the best way to do it,” said Mnangagwa.
Hunyani United’s decision to focus on local talent is a bold move, but it is one that could pay dividends in the long run.
With the right support and resources, these young players could become the stars of the future. The club’s registration has been met with excitement in the community.
As Hunyani United prepares to take on the competition, their coach Makoni is aware of the challenges ahead.
“Division 2 is tough, but we are ready for it. We have a solid team and we are looking forward to testing ourselves against the best,” he said.
With the team’s first match a few weeks, it is expected to be a cracker for the league’s greenhorns.
In the meantime, the club is busy putting the finishing touches to the squad.
